Photographic Manipulation: While photographic manipulation has been going on since the beginning of photography - it took a massive jump in the 90s with the advent of Photoshop.

The example on the right image featuring Sensei Bal from, SGRJ Academy of Martial Arts - The image has been enhanced in the below image by the addition of graphics and the company name. The image is now a lot more symbolic with company branding for marketing purposes.

In the mid 1990s Suchet used to create posters and flyers for various companies to support himself through his Drama School studies. He designed flyers and posters for various cafes and night clubs as well as partly studying Graphic Design while working on designing theatrical sets and lighting for shows.

Graphic Design and The Digital Arena

Skills and/or an understanding in Graphic Design are important for a modern UI/UX Designer. Whether it be UX Design for presentations or websites or interactive games -

The User Experience almost always benefits from good graphic design. It may be acceptable to have a functional product that doesn’t look pretty, however imagine how much better the user experience would be with better visual aesthetics.

Your audience/users and customers demand a quality product - and a quality product should excell in all areas - so if its a website, or a movie or a photographic album - it has to be created to the best possible visual design.

This is more so important now in the digital arena with Hi Definition Tvs and 3D Content readily available on most mediums - Aesthetics are key.

Photoshop Skills: Suchet’s Photoshop skills date back to the early 1990s- He has over 18 years of experience using the software in Print Design and Digital Design

The key factors of doing images of this sort is Aesthetic quality, Believability and in some cases Realism (as per the example on the left image.).

Where as some designers will obliterate their images with Photoshop - its skills that requires careful thought and time.

This was a photograph taken by Suchet Budon in the afternoon at WOMAD 2007 while working on the Photography of Sonnyji who was touring with the BBC Asian Network at the event - The lady in the photo was a beautiful Nepalese dancer who was naturally very photogenic.

He has a 5 year archive of photos simply covering his work of BBC radio DJ Sonny Ji.

After filming 50 hours of footage and creating around 2 hours of visual effects, composing and mixing a soundtrack - Suchet completed his movie Dhyana, set in the Himalayas. The movie won the award for Best Sound on a Movie (Degree Show Exhibition 2005 - University of Wolverhampton.)..
